The media can be misleading. I was 1 years old when my brother was killed, I was never locked up as a child; I was 17 the first time I was arrested and charged for a crime, my dad died in prison from contracting HIV/Aids from shooting Heroin while locked up, I didn't frequently live with my grandmother and aunt; I only lived with my aunt the summer after graduating elementary school throughout my 7th grade year of middle school, and the second half of my 10th grade year of high school until the end of 11th grade. I left DC at 17 years old to attend Hampton University where I was arrested for cutting in the ID line the first week of school. The first guy I saw deceased at a funeral was a kid named buddy, Scooby was a friend of mine who got killed when I was in high school, his younger brother Mike Mike was in the car with him when he was shot dead, and I sympathized for Mike Mike and his mental state of having his brother killed right next to him. Everything else was quite accurate, I was able to escape the streets by going to college, and I still fight everyday to have a better life despite coming from a rough neighborhood.
